In Case You Missed It
Your Next Event

From the Executive Director

We are resending the newsletter in order to correct dates in this column, sent yesterday, so if you missed last night’s spectacular reception for Brazilian Advertising and Design in the ADC Gallery, come this evening to see the show and hear Washington Olivetto talk about his work.

As mentioned, this exhibition marks the 20th anniversary of our first presentation of Brazilian design and advertising in the U. S. The work showcased in this new exhibition features brands and media undreamt of the first time around, but it is still an informing celebration of Brazilian style and imagination. Our thanks go to Felipe Taborda for his vision, and to McCann Erickson and its dedicated teams in New York and Brazil for their splendid collaboration.

Be sure to check out our new four-part speaker series, “ADC Young Guns Live: The Back Story,” which starts next Thursday, April 19, presented by Adobe. There will be a bonus workshop in Creative Suite 3 prior to each event for those who arrive early.

Invitational Portfolio Reviews will introduce the top graduating talents in Advertising and Design from around the country on May 7 and 8, an exciting new Paper Expo and Party on May 9, and the second Young Guns Live event on May 17.

And be sure to make plans to attend ADC’s 86th Annual Awards Gala on May 31. Entries this year surpassed last year’s, and there’ll be winners, judges, colleagues, presentations by Corbis and Yahoo!, great food and drink, live entertainment and gifts for all. You’ll also get to preview a second exhibition, Moleskine’s “U.S. Detour,” on the balcony and in the Aquent Room, of notebooks by artists, architects, designers, writers, filmmakers and others.

If you’re connected from afar, you’ll soon be able to participate via our new website to be unveiled at the Gala. Keep those cards and emails coming.

Cordially,

Myrna Davis

Traveling Exhibition

In North America the ADC's 85th Traveling Exhibition was presented at Columbia College Chicago and the Art Institute of Atlanta. In Chicago, Jennifer Murray, Director of the A+D Gallery, said the show is always a big draw and in Atlanta, Kim Resnik, Director of Communications, said the show was "great." The ADC's Traveling Exhibition has been hosted annually by both venues for several years.

In Europe, the 85th Traveling Exhibition was hosted by the London College of Communications (LCC), which marked its first visit to London in ten years. Laura Des Enfants represented the ADC at the March 8th opening and was impressed by the installation and reception by the efforts of Mike Bradshaw, Dean of the School of Graphic Design, and Jenny Clarke, Marketing Officer. The ADC looks forward to expanding the relationship with LCC in London.

The Association for Promotion of Visual Culture and Visual Communication (VIZUM) in Zagreb, Croatia hosted the 85th Traveling Exhibition. Iva Babaja of VIZUM said the exhibition received national TV coverage and had inquiries from all of the major newspapers. Croatian designer Lina Kovacevic, Distinctive Merit winner in the exhibition as well as an ADC Young Gun 5, was at the opening and participated in press interviews.

The exhibition also made its way to Asia, where it was hosted by the ZeroOne Design Center of Kookmin University in Seoul, South Korea. Myrna Davis, ADC Executive Director, gave a talk on March 15th, and she and Laura Des Enfants attended the March 16th opening. They praised Helen Ku, Curator, and Joonhee Lee, Director of ZeroOne for their imaginative installation and promotion. Prior to the opening, Mrs. Davis also participated in a press conference. Mr. Jae Hyouk Sung, ADC Gold Medalist in the 83rd Annual Awards, who is currently a lecturer at Kookmin University, said that they expect to have at least 4,000 visitors by the end of the exhibition in mid-April.

In Tokyo, the 85th exhibition was hosted by Recruit Co., Ltd in their Creation Gallery 8, where it has been an important element of our Annual Awards recognition in Japan.
