CITY: A Photography Retrospective

One part concierge, one part tastemaker, CITY magazine is your destination for style. Serving up the staple diet of the savvy urbanite - fashion, food, design, and travel - CITY is an insider's guide to cosmopolitan life. In culturally charged communities where the choices are infinite, CITY tailors a custom-fit lifestyle.
After publishing award-winning photography for nearly 10 years, CITY Magazine's glamorous fashion shoots, still-life studies, vibrant beauty close-ups, and cover shots are now bound together in CITY: A Photography Retrospective, edited and produced by former creative director and current Editor-at-Large Fabrice Frere. The 336-page retrospective features the outstanding and diverse work of photographers Bela Borsodi (ADC Young Guns 1), Anthony Cotsifas, Alexander Deutsch, Dwight Eschliman, Torkil Gudnason, Patricia Heal, Matt Hoyle, Anne Menke, Thomas Rusch, Martyn Thompson, Horacio Salinas, Sarah Silver, Daniela Stallinger, Phillip Toledano, Kenji Toma, and Andrew Zuckerman (ADC Young Guns 3).

CITY: A Photography Retrospective is a collection of just some of our favorite stories throughout the years. You'll find fashion shoots, still-life studies, vibrant beauty close-ups, even some sultry balloon-character models sporting the hottest trends. Look closer, though, and you'll discover nearly a decade's worth of passion and creativity from CITY's countless friends and staffers - a body of work that neither John McDonald nor Fabrice Frere could ever have anticipated when they dreamed up this magazine in an office above a bar. Education
ADC Scholarship Fund

In 2008 ADC gave out six $2,500 cash scholarships, sponsored by Veer, Archive Magazine, The Henry Wolf Foundation and an award in memory of ADC life member Bernie Owett. The ADC Illustration scholarship was made possible by donations from members.

The scholarships were awarded to Angela Chen from Fashion Institute of Technology, Mia Deng from The Creative Circus, Jillian Erhardt from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Abbe Findley from the Kansas City Art Institute, Maegan Gindi from Rochester Institute of Technology and Jade Nellans from Savannah College of Art and Design.

Every year ADC works to increase the number of scholarships that we give out and this year is no different. We request your support for the next generation of visual communications professionals by donating to the ADC Scholarship fund. Donations can be submitted online at: www.adcglobal.org/education/donate/. A donation in any amount is greatly appreciated!

Todd St. John in Philadelphia
November 7 - December 5
222gallery Philadelphia presents a selection of new works by artist, designer, and filmmaker Todd St. John.

This show is comprised of works on paper and wooden sculptural work that St. John has been developing over the past 6 years. The work combines elements of industrial design with sign-based and abstract forms. Much of the work contrasts the representation of similar forms in flattened and dimensional space. Another section of the show is devoted to animated shorts and some of the handmade characters and sets created for them.

St. John produces both commercial and experimental work through HunterGatherer, the studio/workshop that he founded in 2000. He has created animations, illustrations and graphics for everyone from MTV to Money Mark to The New York Times. In 1994, while living in California, St. John co-founded the influential graphic T-shirt label Green Lady with Gary Benzel. Nylon Magazine described Green Lady as 'to the designer T-shirt world what RunDMC is to hip-hop'.

St. John designed ADC's 88th Annual Call for Entries.

St. John regularly has work published, broadcast and exhibited internationally. He was included in the 2003 Cooper-Hewitt National Design Triennial with Benzel, and in 2008 was nominated for an Emmy for the animated short 'Circle Squared'. St. John also teaches as a graduate critic at the Yale School of Art.

55DSL Logo Remix

Cut&Paste, in partnership with 55DSL, is proud to announce the 55DSL Logo Remix, a fun graphic design contest. With the imminence of 55DSL's 15th anniversary in 2009, the fashion label that first launched as a spinoff of Diesel and developed into a streetwear brand characterized by exuberant contradictions - thrill-seeking but laid-back, provocative but good-humored - is ready to celebrate the unique mix of attitude and aesthetics it has made all its own. To do so, 55DSL turns to the input of Cut&Paste's own culturally diverse, design-savvy, and urban-centric global audience through the 55DSL Logo Remix contest. The challenge: to revamp the iconic 55DSL Shield logo.

Contestants will need to successfully reinterpret the Shield logo and represent 55DSL's identity as an experimental, innovative brand. Submitted designs will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of eight international judges, ranging from acclaimed graffiti artist Emit to 55DSL's creative director Andrea Rosso, who will select the top five submissions. A creative panel from 55DSL will then review the top logo designs and select their winner. The Grand Prize winner will receive a 1,055€ award and see his/her logo design produced by 55DSL on a T-shirt for its 2010 Spring/Summer collection. The deadline is December 5.
